Everything your church needs to communicate, in one place

Groups and teams stay connected all week long.

Built to be safe

Users without a birthdate on file must verify their age. Anyone who indicates they're under 13 is blocked from chatting entirely. Any conversation that includes a teenager requires at least two adults in the chat at all times. Teens can't initiate direct messages.

As an admin, you control whether chat is enabled at all—for groups or teams.

Group chats that stay up to date automatically

When someone joins a small group or service team, they're added to the group chat. When they leave, they’re automatically removed too. All the right people, none of the manual management.

Group chats live right next to group resources, and team chats live right next to chord charts. It's all in one place.

DM anyone in your group or team

Direct messages in Church Center and the Services app are now available.

People can connect one-on-one or in small group conversations with the people they already share a group or team with.

Multiple layers of safety

Images shared in chats are moderated automatically. GIF sharing is filtered to PG-rated level. And the same safety features that keep your groups protected extend to your group chats, too.

If someone receives a message they didn't want, they can report it. If they don't want to receive messages at all, they can turn them off.

Built to be safe

We have a senior exercise class that meets weekly. The members of this group routinely let each other know when they won't be there, share prayer requests, and solicit and offer help for rides, lawn maintenance, car trouble, etc. The chat feature has really connected the seniors in a way that has brought many more back to church after sitting things out for a long while!

Frequently Asked Questions About Planning Center chat

Have more questions? Contact Support.

Is Planning Center chat safe for my church to use?

Yes! Planning Center chat was built with safety tools specifically for churches. Users must be 13 years old to chat, and two adults must be in any chat where a teen is present. To learn more about chat’s safety and security features, see this article.

How much does it cost to chat in Planning Center?

There’s no additional cost to using Planning Center chat. If you have teams in Services or groups in Groups, they can enable it and start chatting for free!

Who can use Planning Center chat?

Planning Center chat was built for service teams and groups. When chat is enabled, teams in Services and groups in Groups can use chat from the Planning Center toolbar, Church Center, or the Services mobile app.

What types of conversations can I create in Planning Center chat?

You can create a few different types of conversations!

In Services, administrators can create multi-team conversations, leaders can start their own team thread, and you can even coordinate via plan chats for specific dates.

In Groups, you can kick off multiple conversations for each group, split those conversations up by gender, or start an announcement thread that only leaders can post to. Anyone who’s already chatting with their group or team can also DM members of those same groups and teams.

Do I have to create a new chat when my group or team changes?

No! That’s one way Planning Center chat is designed to fit your church's needs. When someone moves away and you remove them from your small group or worship team, they’ll be automatically removed from any associated chats.
