New groups always started with chat turned off, so someone had to remember to enable it every time a group launches. Now admins can turn chat on by default for each group type, so new groups are ready to chat from day one.

In a group type’s Default settings, check Enable chat for groups, then choose who can create new conversations: Only leaders (default) or Members and leaders.

Leaders can turn chat on and off

The group type setting that lets leaders manage chat now reads Allow leaders to enable and disable chat for their group, and it’s on by default for new group types. Existing group types keep their current setting.

Confidential groups can’t have chat enabled, regardless of these defaults.

One less thing to remember when a new group gets started.
