For a lot of you, email is how Groups leaders actually reach their members—but until now, those emails couldn't include the very thing leaders were trying to send (e.g. study handout, event flyers, or an image invite). Their options were to upload it to the group's Resources tab in Church Center (which members have to log in to find), build a List in People, or fall back to personal email or Mailchimp.

This has been one of your most-requested Groups improvements, and it’s available today: we've brought over the same email composer we use in People, attachments and inline images now work right where you write your Groups emails.

Send the actual thing, not a link to it

You can now attach files directly to a Groups email or also embed images inline, so an invitation flyer or a newsletter shows up right in the message instead of hiding behind a "click here."

Members get the file in their inbox, no Church Center login required.

A few more upgrades that came along for the ride

Because Groups emails now use the People composer, you get some extras we think you'll like:

  • Choose your sender. Send from an email on your own profile or from the organization email.

  • Auto-saved drafts. Step away and come back — your message is waiting.

  • Name placeholders. Drop in the sender's or recipient's first and last name to personalize a message you're sending to the whole group. (This is not available for event reminders as the name is already inserted in those emails.)

A couple of practical limits, in line with our other email tools: images can be up to 10 MB each (JPG, PNG, or GIF), up to 20 per email, and attachments are capped at 10 MB each and 10 MB total.

This is part of a broader effort to make the email experience more consistent across Planning Center, so wherever you write a message, it works the way you'd expect. If there's something else you'd love to see in Groups emails, we'd love to hear about it!
