GreenScore is PlaceWorks’ is approach and methodology for measuring and evaluating the sustainability of the built environment. PlaceWorks uses GreenScore in general plans, specific plans, transit-oriented development studies, site planning projects, and EIRs. GreenScore can model both existing and future conditions as well as multiple development scenarios. It is also highly adaptable—to each project’s goals and objectives, clients’ needs, and to a variety of specific project types.

Based on a set of carefully selected indicators and using a dynamic suite of proprietary GIS-based tools, GreenScore provides a qualitative and quantitative assessment of socioeconomic and environmental factors that help illustrate how the built environment affects sustainability. One of the key strengths of the methodology is the diversity of topics it assesses—such as walkability, vehicle miles traveled, air pollutant emissions, housing density and affordability, and natural resource preservation.
